I think this is a great idea because it allows these children to be able to learn about dance that they would not otherwise get. It may inspire them to continue dancing. This is similar to the hip hop dancers we discussed at the beginning of the semester since they used dance to express themselves and stay off the streets by doing something constructive rather than violent.
What are your thoughts on this program? Should these programs exist more often?
I definitely think more programs should be around like this. It's important that young kids are exposed to as many forms of art as possible, this way they can choose what they would like or wouldn't like to do later. I like that you compared it to the break dancers that we studied earlier in the semester. Even though the dance styles are completely different, the emotional response they provide for young kids allows them to deal with environmental or personal problems in a more constructive and physical way. Good find on the article.
