Dances we grew up with

So we all know that there were dances in High school that would make everyone get out on the dance floor whether they wanted to or not. Even when I was in high school, it didnt matter if you couldn't dance, people had to try or they would look like an idiot.

So, the other day my friend and i avoided school work by listening/ watching 90s video and i thought i'd share the fun ones that reminded me of what it was like to be ten years old again.

  1. That was a great idea Julie! I love rewatching dances and hearing songs from when we were younger. It's great these dances exist that everyone learned and could follow along to; the entire room would start dancing!

Of the 3 you posted, my favorite would have to be the Cha Cha Slide. I think that came out shortly before my Bat Mitzvah, and I remember how excited I was when the DJs played it at my party and everyone started dancing! I also remember teaching the moves to my mom before the party so she knew what to expect and could follow along!

Another popular dance was the Cotton Eyed Joe. This was also a dance everyone learned, but you couldn't follow along to the words to dance; someone had to teach you. What surprised me was that there were a few versions of this dance, so depending on the people I was with, I might have danced differently. Did anyone else have this experience?

  2. I was worried there for a second that you were going to forget the Cha cha slide. That is by far my favorite, and was the biggest hit at middle school dances. We rocked cotton eyed joe as well but i always hated it. The dance is so corny.

Its cool to remember these songs/dances and remember how big they were when we were younger. I wonder if they still play them at high school dances. Its funny to see how much these songs have changed and how they catch on today. now it seems like having a youtube video of the dance that goes viral is necessary for a dance and/or song to catch on. It's also interesting to see how Soulja Boy, audio push, and Cali Swag District have used dance to attract views towards their brands

  3. I think the Macarena was definitely the dance of my elementary school years. Everyone thought they were so cool dancing it.

In my gym class, we had a lesson on line dances. Along with the Chicken Dance and your typical square dancing, we learned the Cha Cha Slide. Yeah... A 65 year-old woman trying to teach a bunch of 6th graders how to put their "hands on their knees..." not always a great memory.

But this was a great idea Julie!
