Dance in Film

The second TCM Classic Film festival honored our dance film favorite such as West Side Story and Fame. Dance has been a part of the entertainment circuit for a long time and it's nice to see that some classics are still appreciated.

What's your favorite classic movie that incorporates dance?

  1. I've always loved Grease, the choreography for the bandstand dance has always been amazing, witty, athletic and entertaining. I know a few friends that always get teary eyed at the Senior Carnival/Sandy's change scene as the Seniors dance together one last time. I think it's safe to call it a classic now, since it's original release was in 1978 and about the 1950s.

  2. I love Grease as well and did not realize how much dance is incorporated in to it until we started listing the movies we could watch for the assignment. It also was not until that day that I realized how many movies are centrally built on the theme of dance. Clearly dance provides a great story background and is able to tell the story of main characters. I'm going to be so much more aware of this now.

  3. I don't know if we would call this a classic but I think in our time for our generation that Save the Last Dance is a classic dance movie for us. Not only does it incorporate an interesting plot and a great love story, but for our generation it launched a lot of new dance movies that incorporated hip hop like Step Up.
