Today we talked about queer club culture and the improvisation of dance to electronic music. But of course, electronic dance music is enjoyed by many other groups of people as well.

And check out what Hasan Baba is up to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR_VhfxAnXU
These are pretty hysterical. I feel like Hasan has got it though where as the first video is trying to bring order to edm - which I don't feel is the purpose of edm dance. Hasan is clearly killing it by being himself and moving to the music as he feels it. I feel like this is what dance music is supposed to make you do. Because the beat is so simple, having set moves sort of takes the fun out of it.
ReplyDeleteElectronic music is made to be danced to, there is no other way to put it. Your post is true that while it may have come up during queer club culture, electronic music as a whole is exploding. Evening listening to the radio artists that have been famous for awhile are incorporating dub step and other electronic influences to their music for the first time to meet the trend. Hasan's got moves! With the explosion of electronic music festivals all over the country, looks like he should be on the road!
ReplyDeleteKinda funny that last class we talked about both Electronic Dance Music as well as instructional dance videos, because your post relates to both. I can't lie, Hasan KILLS it. Spreading the EDM love everywhere and always.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you said the queer club culture may have been responsible for the first signs of popularity involving EDM, but it has been around for a while now. There were signs of the electronic music explosion a few decades ago all over the world, especially in European countries.
