T Mobile Flash Mob

After spending a few days meeting with commercial production companies over spring break, I was shown the commercial below. It is an example of a dance flash mob used in advertising. How do you think incorporating dancing into advertising has affected the way that dance evolves? I think that when advertising gets involved that it does have an affect on the way people dance and the publicity around dancing. I think this helps to make dances more public and people more aware of dance cultures and styles. Can you think of any other flash mobs that have been used in advertising before?

  1. That was a cool video!

I think incorporating dancing into advertising makes it more acceptable to everyone. More people can participate, and since, especially in this video, it was an extremely large group, people don't have to feel self-conscious. They look like they're having fun dancing, which attracts spectators at the event as well as people watching the advertisement.

It was also interesting that this promoted T Mobile, yet you didn't realize it was an advertisement until the dance was over. Dancing was a way to get everyone's interest and attention and then promote a product. Do you think this is an effective way to advertise?
